I enjoy working with students on all of their post-secondary planning needs and goals. Throughout my range of experiences working in higher education and with high school students, I take pride in my ability to create genuine, open, realistic, and supportive relationships with my students. Many of whom I continue to keep in touch with after college. My college counseling approach is to partner with my students and families; coaching them through their college application journey and celebrating all of their successes.
Prior to starting Yates College Advising in 2022, I spent the previous four years working at Sage Creek High School as the College and Career Guidance Tech. I primarily worked with juniors and seniors as they navigated their journeys to various post-secondary pathways. I created a wealth of resources for the students to help them with the different college application platforms; the University of California, California State University, Common App, and Coalition. In addition, I actively promoted the local scholarship opportunities to our students and provided support with the various financial aid applications.
Over the course of the past few years, I've had the unique and valuable opportunity to work as an Admissions Reader for UC San Diego. This opportunity allows me to gain invaluable insights into the college admissions process for undergraduate applicants.
Prior to working at Sage Creek High School, I worked at UC San Diego for over 13 years supporting the academic and social development of undergraduate college students at John Muir College (one of the undergraduate colleges at UCSD). During my time at UCSD, I oversaw the freshman orientation program, guided students to college graduation, assisted students with major and minor selection, and supported students applying to graduate programs. I enjoy guiding students through the exploration process surrounding career, life, and college goals and I am quite adept at navigating university offices and websites.
I currently volunteer as a College Counselor for a local nonprofit, Casa de Amistad and their College Pathways program. This role allows me to mentor and support local high school juniors and seniors with the college application process. In addition to volunteering I enjoy spending time with my family; helping my two daughters with school and activities, chasing our dog Finley, and playing volleyball and pickleball.
